This page contains the most important information to help you prepare your child calmly and safely for treatment.
Personal preparation
Enter your child's appointment details and weight. The calculation takes place only in your browser and is not stored or sent to Dentics.
On the day of treatment
Always check the appointment time and the instructions you received from Dentics.
For appointments before 12:30, your child must not eat and must not have milk or dairy before treatment. For appointments from 12:30 onwards, breakfast may be possible if it is completely finished at least six hours beforehand.
Apply both numbing skin patches 1 to 1.5 hours before the appointment. Then give paracetamol AND ibuprofen according to the weight schedule.
Clear fluids are allowed until one hour before the appointment. After that, your child must not drink anything.
Choose warm, comfortable clothing and arrange for an adult to sit next to your child on the journey home.
Fasting instructions
For example water, tea without milk, non-carbonated cordial or clear apple juice. From one hour before the appointment, nothing more may be drunk.
For appointments before 12:30: no food, milk or dairy before treatment. From 12:30 onwards, breakfast may be possible if it is completely finished at least six hours before the appointment.
Before the IV
The patches numb the skin where an IV may later be inserted.
Make sure the skin is clean and dry.
Carefully remove the patch without unnecessarily touching the active area.
Place the patches on the areas shown in your instructions.
Check that the edges are properly attached.
Apply the patches 1 to 1.5 hours before the appointment. For the earliest appointment at 08:00, the preferred time is around 06:30.

After applying the patches
Give both medicines according to your child's weight. If your child is still asleep after the patches are applied for an early appointment, give the pain relief as soon as your child wakes, preferably by about one hour before the appointment.
<15 kg: 250 mg
15–<25 kg: 500 mg
25–35 kg: 750 mg
>35 kg: 1000 mg
<20 kg: 100 mg
20–<25 kg: 200 mg
25–35 kg: 300 mg
>35 kg: 400 mg
Comfort and warmth
Warmth makes blood vessels easier to see and access. This helps us insert the IV as calmly as possible.
What can you expect?
One parent or carer can stay with the child while they go to sleep. We distract your child and insert the IV as calmly as possible. Your child then falls asleep quickly through the IV.
The anaesthesia team continuously monitors vital functions. The dentist carries out the agreed treatment while your child is asleep.
After treatment your child goes to the recovery area. Your child remains under supervision while waking up, and a parent or carer can be present again.
After treatment
After anaesthesia, your child must not sit alone on the back seat. Make sure an adult can sit next to your child and use the usual child seat or seat belt where required.
At home, let your child recover quietly and keep them under supervision. Follow the discharge instructions you receive regarding food, drink, pain relief and activities.
